University Writing Committee Minutes

April 14, 2008

8:00 a.m.
Comstock Memorial Union 218

Present: Michael McCord, acting chair; Sheri Erickson, Jill Frederick, Jarilyn Gess, Dawn Hammerschmidt, Stacy Voeller, Jean Sando (arrived after motions were completed).

Absent: Steve Bolduc

Review of Course Proposals:

ACCT 460: Audit I: Erickson moved. Gess seconded to approve AACT 460 as Writing-Intensive. James Hansen was present to answer questions and provide a brief overview of the course writing components. The motions was approved unanimously.

MATH 416: Mathematics in the Secondary School: Erickson moved. Gess seconded to approve MATH 416 as Writing-Intensive. Tim Harms was present to answer questions and provide a brief overview of the course writing components.

  • Indicate on the syllabus how writing serves the goals of the course
  • Unclear on how the written competencies are addressed and how they are developed
  • Unclear of how the quality of the student writing will affect the course grade

The motion was approved unanimously provided the above recommendations were made to the syllabus prior to APAC submission. McCord will review the syllabus prior to APAC submission and Hammerschmidt will review prior to the APAC meeting on 4/22/08.

Additional UWC Business:

  1. Fall semester 2008 UWC meeting time will be every other Friday at 2:30.
  2. TECH 385: Process Leadership: McCord has been in consultation with Pam McGee rearding the changes that were suggested to this course at the 2/25/08 UWC meeting. McCord will send the proposal through e-mail for review and action by the committee.
