Research

My research concerns social and normative influences on various health-related attitudes and behaviors, in particular body image.   I currently have 2 lines of research going in my lab.  First, my students are I are looking at people's perceptions about what others find attractive to determine whether people experience more psychological difficulties if they hold these misperceptions.  Second, we are currently preparing studies that will investigate whether we can prevent women from experiencing negative consequences associated with viewing thin models in the media.
