Kraus Curriculum
Development Library (KCDL): A User Guide
General Information
The Kraus Curriculum Development Library (KCDL) is
a collection of curriculum guides from all over North America, available
electronically on the Web and/or on microfiche.These guides include objectives, programs, teaching
practices, lesson plans, assessment measures, etc. for grades K through 12,
early childhood education, and adult basic education.The collection is updated annually.
The
collection is indexed on the web at http://web.mnstate.edu/cmc/OnlineDatabases.cfm.The CMC K-12 online full-text databases are listed in alphabetical order.Scroll down the list to choose Kraus.
To
use this database from off campus, you must have a current MSUM ID and must have
set up your computer for proxy access by following the “Directions for
Off-Campus Access to Library Databases.”These directions are available on the Library home page at http://web.mnstate.edu/library/.
The
index includes annotations for each guide.The actual guides are available either electronically on the Web or are
in the microfiche collection housed in the Curriculum Materials Center on 2nd
floor of the Library.
Search Strategies
- Full
Text Search
- This is the simplest search.You may type in keywords or a phrase.Phrases should be enclosed in quotations marks, such as “special education.”You may combine keywords with a phrase.For example:
MATHEMATICS “SPECIAL EDUCATION”
- After
typing in your keywords, click on the “search” button.
- The
search results will be listed alphabetically under general subject areas.Documents that are available electronically in full-text are noted
with a symbol that looks like a full sheet of paper after the title.Full-text documents may be downloaded or printed.Please note that some of the documents are long and may take a
significant amount of time to download or print.
- To access documents that are not full-text, click on the title of the document and record the “document number.”These documents are available on microfiche in the Curriculum Materials Center.Pages of the microfiche may be printed at the 1st floor Periodicals Desk for 10 cents per page.

Advanced Search
- Use
the advanced search to narrow your results by using a number of fields.
- To
select multiple non-consecutive terms within a given field, hold down the
CTRL key, and then click each term you want to select.
- To
select multiple consecutive terms within a given field, click on the first
term, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the last term you want to
select.
- Printing
- You
may print from the public terminals in the Library.Pick up your printing at the first floor Periodicals Desk by
stating the number of your computer terminal.You may also print in the Library LIT Center (Library
222).This room has its own
printer.
- Logout
- When
have completed your searches, click on the logout button at the top of the screen.
