Locating Health Lesson Plans:
Grades K-6

Lesson plans may be found in a number of ways. Here are a few places to start your search:
1. Textbooks and Curriculum Bulletins
The Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) has health textbooks and curriculum bulletins designed for teaching elementary students. Look in the teacher’s editions for lesson plan ideas. The newest textbooks in the CMC are in the series entitled Totally Awesome Health.
- Health Textbooks —
Do a keyword search in WebPALS under health or under your specific topic with
the words sample text.Example:
a.NUTRITION SAMPLE TEXT
- Curriculum Bulletins/Guides from the CMC book collection.Also, do a keyword search in WebPALS, but add the
words curriculum bulletin.Example:
a.NUTRITION CURRICULUM BULLETIN
- Curriculum Bulletin/Guides from the Kraus Curriculum
Development Library.This is a
microfiche collection located in the CMC.Use
the CD-ROM Index to search for your topic.Search
under your topic with the words “lesson plans.”You may also add the grade level to your
search.
2. Internet Sites
- For lesson plans and related health resources, go to Health or Lesson Plans/Teaching Resources. Both of these are part of the CMC web pages.
- For more Internet-based lesson plans, use a search engine and
search under your topic plus the phrase "lesson plans." Be sure to carefully
evaluate this material.
