Umoja Student Association

"MSUM's African Heritage and Culture Organization"

Umoja Student Association (“Unity” in Swahili), is a student organization that aims to strengthen and accentuate the liaison between students of African heritage and the Tri-College campuses at large. The organization hosts cultural events each year in order to fulfill the goals of our organization, such as MLK Day, Pan-African Night, Black History Month Programs, and multiple social events with music, dance, and food! Umoja builds leaders today for tomorrow’s success!

  • To foster and maintain an identity with the African American culture and ideals.
  • To be willing and qualified to discuss and share the black experience with other interested persons on and off campus and to be aware of the black contribution to the mainstream of American society.
  • To encourage and assist black students in maintaining acceptable grade point averages.
  • To encourage all black students to complete their degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
