Texas Multicultural Program Description
The Texas Multicultural Experience (TME) is a two- to three-week session during which you will gain a deeper understanding of the pluralistic nature of the population of the U.S. through involvement in a Mexican-American community and a trip into Mexico. It can be used to meet the multicultural studies requirement for education majors. The experience is worth three credits and is comprised of three major components:
This class will address the culture of the Mexican-American people of South Texas and will be taught by a staff member of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District. It will meet daily for two weeks.

You will have the opportunity to spend part of each day in one of the schools in the PSJA district. You will be assigned to a classroom in accordance with your major. There are 21 elementary schools, 3 high schools, and 4 middle or junior high schools. The population of the PSJA district is 97% Hispanic.

A travel agent in PSJA will make the arrangements for our trip into Mexico. You will need one of the following documents to prove citizenship: passport, birth certificate, voter registration card.
