Summary of Professional Career and Current Responsibilities and Activities:

I began my stint here at MSUM in 1984.  Prior to this, I was Government Documents and Periodicals Librarian for a year at Albion College in Michigan.  Before that, I worked for the Western Michigan University Library Government Documents/Maps Dept. and for the Kalamazoo Public Library Oshetmo Branch.

I am responsible for collection management of the federal and state documents and  maps collections and am the consultant to library staff for documents and maps issues.  I coordinate collection development of the legal reference collection.  I created and maintain the library's web pages for government documents/maps and legal resources, as well as the Clay County Law Library webpage.  I serve at the general reference desk and conduct library instruction for a variety of classes.

Education:

Bachelor of Science  (Western Michigan University, 1979)
Master of Science in Librarianship  (WMU, 1982)
Master of Liberal Arts  (MSUM, 1991)

Published Book Reviews:

My reviews for Library Journal include music, Native American studies, and reference titles.  27 reviews have been published to date.  I work with three editors, depending upon the topic.  All reviews can be found online via the Gale databases, but can only be accessed by currently enrolled students and MSUM personnel.  I am happy to email examples of my work upon request.

Other Activities:

I participated in the development of the Minnesota Government Documents State Plan during the past year.  The Plan is designed to provide direction for the future of government documents in the state.

I am a board member of the Clay County Law Library, with which the MSUM library offers a unique arrangment by providing legal resources to the community at large.  The Clay County Law Library provides funding for major legal resources housed in this library, making them much more accessible to the community.  The collection also serves our new Paralegal Department.

Professional Associations:

I have been or am currently a member of:

   American Library Association (including GODORT)
   Special Library Association
   Minnesota Library Association
Minntrodocs (the Minnesota government documents librarians group)

Sorry, no fancy images or photos on this page!  I tend to be understated and feel if someone wants personal information about me, they can ask.   Otherwise, I'm not going to mention my kids, pets, hobbies, etc, other than to suggest investigating my MUSIC webpages.  In addition to my responsibilities in the library, I am heavily involved in various music-related activities, including hosting a radio program, Dimensions in Jazz,  for North Dakota Public Radio.
