Gallagher on Same-Sex Marriage  (in James E. White text)

Gallagher's essay opposes same-sex marriage. The argument is very simple.

Marriage exists so that society can encourage the organization of families so that each child will be raised by her or his two biological parents.

Families in which one of both of the biological parents are absent should not be encouraged by society.

Same-sex marriage requires a model of marriage that is unrelated to the joint raising of a couple's biological offspring.

Therefore, same-sex marriage will "hurt" the current social institution by "disconnecting" the link between marriage and babies.

We should not hurt the social institution in this manner.

Therefore, same-sex marriage should be opposed.
