Respond to the following topic in good English prose.  Correctness, completeness, appropriate details, and interesting comments & examples will contribute to higher evaluation marks.  Answers should be double-spaced, 12 point font, 1-inch margins on all sides. 

 

Select one of the following topics for your essay:

 

Topic 1.  Imagine that you are going to give a presentation comparing the advantages of independent-groups versus within-groups designs  to an audience who understands statistics but is not well versed in research methods. Write a short (around 3+ pages) paper in which you specify and explain the points that you would make to such an audience.  Be sure to include good examples in your explanations!

Topic 3.  Imagine that you are going to give a presentation comparing & contrasting two-group and multi-group designs in terms of their relative advantages and disadvantages. Include one example that can be used for both designs.

 

Note:  The textbook, class notes, and internet sites are all appropriate sources for information. However, if you use internet sites, be sure to note what they are in your paper (i.e., copy the internet address line & paste it into your text).  Also DO NOT simply copy lengthy passages – that’s called plagiarism; put explanations into your own words.

 

Provide both a printed and an electronic copy of your answers. 

Printed answers are due in class on Tues, Nov 24, 2:30 p.m.

The FILE NAME for your paper should be your lastname-firstname – essay 5.

 

NOTE:   Your emailed version must be sent from your mnstate address.  Emails

from other addresses will be deleted & your submission will be counted as “late.”

 

Late essays will be penalized grade-wise: 10% per day (Mon – Fri), to a maximum

 of two letter-grades equivalent.  The essay will be counted as late until BOTH

 the printed copy and the electronic copy are received.
