James D. Hansen
Professor of Accounting


    James Hansen is in his tenth year at Minnesota State University Moorhead teaching principles of accounting and auditing.  He is a former Associate Professor of Accounting at North Dakota State University.  He has been named Outstanding Accounting Educator by the NDSCPA's, Professor of the Year in Accounting, a Bison Ambassadors Apple Polisher, and a Mortar Board Preferred Professor.

    Prior to his teaching career, he was employed as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co., CPA's in Minneapolis, MN.  He is licensed as a CPA in North Dakota.  He received his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993. 

    His research interests include auditor decision making, auditor liability, and accounting education.  He has authored or co-authored several refereed articles published in the Journal of Accountancy,  The CPA Journal, The Ohio CPA Journal, Journal of Forensic Accounting, Commentaries On The Law of Accounting & Finance, Journal of Education for Business, Accounting Instructors' Report, The Journal of Accounting Case Research, The Journal of Legal Studies Education, NBDC Report, Journal of Business and Leadership: Research, Practice, and Teaching, The Journal of 21st Century Accounting, New Accountant, and Journal of Legal Studies in Business.  He also has several applied publications–five of which have been published in the Dakota CPA, refereed proceedings, and refereed paper presentations. 

    Hansen is Past-President of the Association of North Dakota Teachers of Collegiate Accounting.  He has been a member of the North Dakota Society of CPA's CPE Committee, the Finance Chair for the Fargo Public Schools Senior Party, and the Treasurer and a Board member of the Red River Valley Volleyball Junior Olympic Program, Inc.
