You insert the NuvaRing
manually into your vagina and it stays in place for 3 weeks. The ring
releases a continuous low dose of hormones during those 3 weeks.
You remove the ring for the 4th week. You are protected against pregnancy for the entire month.
During the”ring free week” you will usually get your period.
After the “ring free week” you insert a new NuvaRing.
Use a backup method of birth control for the first 7 days the first time you use the ring.
Does not interrupt sexual activity
You do not have to remember to take it daily/weekly
Reduces menstrual flow and cramping
Ability to become pregnant immediately after discontinued use, if seeking pregnancy
Decreases acne outbreaks
Reduces risk of ovarian and uterine cancer
Not a good choice if you are uncomfortable touching your vagina
Increased risk of heart attack, stroke or blood clots especially if you smoke
May create vaginal discomfort and discharge
Does not protect against Sexually Transmitted Infections or HIV/AIDS
