What is it?
The prevention of ejaculation of sperm into a woman’s vagina; also referred to as ‘coitus interruptus’, ‘pulling out’, or ‘pull & pray’.

How do I use it?

Before intercourse, the man should urinate and wipe off the tip of the penis if he previous ejaculated and there may be sperm present
When the male partner feels he is going to ejaculate, remove the penis from the vagina and ejaculate away from his partner’s genitals

How effective is it?
Effectiveness depends largely on the man’s ability to withdraw prior to ejaculation. The actual effectiveness of the method when used correctly every time is highly uncertain. The risk of pregnancy is estimated at about 20%, meaning 20 out of 100 women using this method will become pregnant within the first year.

What are the advantages?

There is no cost
No use of devices or chemicals
Available in any situation
Couples who are not concerned if a pregnancy occurs may find withdrawal as an acceptable method of birth control.

What are the disadvantages?

Does not provide any protection against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) or HIV/AIDS
This method is unforgiving if not used correctly
The man may not have good awareness of when ejaculation is going to occur
May be sexually dissatisfying as the interruption of withdrawing the penis may diminish sexual pleasure for men & women
