Housing and Residential Life Alumni

Past News and Announcements

11/8/2002  Remember the Tri-College R.A.Conference? It's coming up soon, Saturday, November 23.  MSUM is hosting the conference this year and it looks to be a good conference.  Check out the web page linked above to see what will be happening at this year's conference!  Thank you to all Alumni who donate to the university as this year's conference is funded in part by the Alumni Foundation!

10/6/2002  The reunion went fairly well.  Wish more staff would have returned, but it was great to spend time with those who could make it.

9/11/2002 A postcard is being sent out to Housing Alumni this week to promote the Housing Reunion on Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m. on the East Side of the Brand New John Neumaier Apartments.

8/27/2002  Another year is off to a great start.  We have a new Apartment Complex (John Neumaier Apartments).

We will be hosting a reunion during Homecoming on Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m.  (Location to be determined).  We will have rolls and juice, socialize, offer building tours and then we can watch the parade at 12:00 p.m. and the football game after that.

5/10/2002  Housing is planning to host a Housing Reunion during Homecoming.  Check back for more details later and e-mail Ryan Sylvester to let us know if you are interested in coming:  sylvest@mnstate.edu

4/24/2002  At the end of the year residence life banquet, several resident assistants were inducted into the Programming Hall of Fame

1/6/2002  An on-line submission form has been created to add your contact and other information to the web page.

Click here to add your address and other information to the page

The new system will allow listings to be sorted by Last Name, State, and year of graduation.  Click the MSUM Housing Alumni Addresses link for more details.

12/13/2001  Results of several years of floor evaluations and student satisfaction surveys, discussions with Residence Hall Association and Hall Councils, as well as increased dissatisfaction among non-smokers not having access to limited number of no smoking floors has led the Housing & Residential Life department to decide to go smoke free in all of the residence halls starting with summer housing 2002. Smoking will not be allowed inside any of the residence halls including student rooms.

We believe the benefits from this decision will include: A more comfortable environment for all students with medical conditions or allergies, Cleaner looking painted surfaces and less wear on the rooms due to smoke discoloring walls and ceilings, reduced roommate conflicts over the smoking issue, increased ability to enforce marijuana and incense policies as smoke of any kind will not be tolerated, and fewer floor conflicts over smoke traveling from room to room via wall mounted
heater units.

12/01/2001  Sorry I have been slow in updating this site.  There have been a couple of new additions to the updates on former staff members and the addition of some information to the former staff listings from 85-86 and 86-87.  If you have any information to fill in gaps of staff listings please e-mail them to sylvest@mnstate.edu  Some exciting news is the beginning of construction on Neumaier II an on campus apartment building for upperclass students.  It will be located parallel to East Snarr across from Murray Beach.

5/30/2001 Message from former staff member Larry Christenson: A few of the mid-to-late 80's and early 90's housing staff are joining up in Morris, MN on July 14 for a Housing Staff Reunion. Please check out the website they have set up to gather interest in the event: Reunion Web Page.

Have you visited the Housing Department web page lately? You can take a virtual tour of the residence halls including 180 degree and even 360 degree perspectives of rooms, lounges, and common areas of the buildings. Check it out!

4/14/2001 The Housing Alumni page was featured in the Alumnews paper sponsored by the Alumni Office. It has been great hearing from former staff members. Please continue to spread the word about this site.

1/14/2000 Had some time to update the site. Welcome to the alumni staff members that recently sent information. I apologize for not updating it sooner. Please spread the word to other former staff.

7/30/2000 Just doing some technical updates, changing the name from Moorhead State University to Minnesota State University Moorhead. Fall training is about to start again. Haven't received any updates from staff, this web site depends on submissions from former staff members for its development. Please encourage former staff members to submit their information. Thanks!

1/26/2000 Thank you to Sharon Schoenborn and Kerstin Kealy for assisting with the Tri-College R.A. Conference this year. Their help was greatly appreciated!

12/29/1999 The video on the Neumaier implosion is available for $9.95 from the Alumni Foundation Office. It is called the "Final Bow" and is a very nice piece of professionally produced video with all kinds of interesting, high resolution footage. It also contains a considerable amount of background information. People can also call Betty at (218) 236-3265.

12/3/1999 The page has been updated finally, I apologize for not giving this page the attention it needs.

12/1/1999 Thank you to all alumni that support the Alumni Foundation office with funds. I recently received an Alumni Foundation grant for the upcoming Tri-College Resident Assistant Conference that MSUM will be hosting January 22, 2000. Do you remember going to this conference? Check out the conference web page and follow the link to Conference Presenters, and if you scroll down you can read old presentation topics and some of your names are next to them.
