Help for Typing in Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish using Windows
 

If you already know how to switch languages, use these links to get specific typing help for each language. Otherwise, continue reading this page to find out how to switch languages.

   

If you don't know how to switch languages in order to type in Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish using Windows, follow the steps below:
 

  1. Open the program you will be using (Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, etc.).
     
  2. Find the language indicator (EN) in the lower right corner of the screen as shown below.


     

  3. Click once on the EN to see the languages available for typing as shown below.


     

  4. Click on an option to choose the language you want to use for typing.

The language indicator will change from EN to one of the following:

Japanese
Chinese (Pinyin)
Spanish (International Keyboard)

To get back to English, click on the new indicator and choose the top option, EN English (United States).
 

PLEASE NOTE

After you are done using the computer, please make sure the language is set back to English. Students who use the computer after you will appreciate it.
