Minnesota State University Moorhead is enrolled in the McAfee Grant License program through a special agreement negotiated by the MnSCU system office. This agreement provides the university with renewable rights to install Virex for the Mac on our campus computers.

McAfee Grant License Usage Rights Summary:
The McAfee Grant License program is a usage license that must be renewed. This program gives Minnesota State University Moorhead the license to install Virex antivirus software on all university-owned computers for the duration of the agreement. Part of the agreement provides free at-home use by university employees and students, such that each employeemay install the software on ONE portable or home computer for the duration of the Agreement, provided the employee is the primary user of that computer.
Facilitating Compliance Summary:
Minnesota State University Moorhead will keep the usual and proper records relating to reproduction, distribution and use of the antivirus software. These records include but are not limited to a database of on-campus installations, user logins to the Internet download site, and a signed Users Acceptance form for each employee who checks out the installation software.
On-Campus Installation Procedure:
The Information Technology Department installs the Virex software covered by the Grant License program on each new computer installation. Campus installations are set to update automatically. If you are concerned that the Virex software is not updating, email support@mnstate.edu or call the Information Technology Department.
Off-Campus Installation Procedure:
Employees who wish to install the Virex software covered by the Agreement on a home computer must first verify that their home computer meets the system requirements. The Information Technology Department has a limited number of antivirus software CDs available for overnight checkout.
Employees who wish to install the software on a home computer must first complete and sign the Employee Users Acceptance Form which is available online or may be picked up at the Information Technology Department. The employee may then check out a CD from the Information Technology Department during regular business hours. The CD must be returned to the Information Technology Department the following day. Copies of the Network Associates Virex software, which are not obtained through the Information Technology Department, are not considered legal copies under this Agreement.
AVG offers free antivirus software for personal use from Grisoft. This product is a good choice for student-owned computers and employee-owned computers that are not eligible for Virex or Symantec.
