honors the 2007 promotion of
Ok-Hee Lee
Elementary and Early Childhood Education
Steinberg, Shirley and Joe Kincheloe, editors. Kinderculture: The Corporate Construction of Childhood. Westview Press, 2004.
Dr. Lee chose this book because:
“I would like to recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the culture of childhood or early childhood education. One of the overarching themes of the book, which is a collection of articles by different authors, is that childhood is a socially constructed concept rather than a truth discovered by science, and it is the corporations today who are constructing childhood, corporations such as McDonald’s, Disney, Mattel, and so on. I hope this book helps early childhood education students at MSUM and others critically examine the process of exploitation of the corporations and reflect on what it does to children today.”
