Checklist
If you are going to be teaching a distance course, you may want to schedule
a consultation with a librarian during your course preparation. A librarian can
assist you in locating relevant sources and assist you in planning research assignments.
Will you be using library resources in your class (i.e., readings)?
- Are there journal articles
that you need? The library can help you link to full-text articles within
a database or scan sections and put them on -Reserve.
- Are there books you would
like to use? The Library can scan sections and put on E-Reserve
Will students be conducting research?
- You can have a librarian
create a course guide to assist students in locating relevant databases
and other sources.
- Many students are still
uncomfortable with online research, a librarian can create tutorials
(flash videos) to assist these students in locating information.
Will you be using a Course Management System (CMS)?
- Librarians can embed research
sources and guides within your CMS.
- Librarians can put contact
information into your CMS to facilitate research consultations.
- Librarians can become active
members of your CMS and assist students at point-of-need.
