Reference Collection

The Library maintains a collection of Reference materials, including print electronic resources, on the first floor of the Library. This collection includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, bibliographies, and statistical resources in a variety of disciplines and subject areas to support the curriculum of MSU. Reference materials do not circulate. Please consult the Librarian at the Reference desk for assistance and guidance in using the Reference collection.

The criteria for the selection of reference materials are:

• Judged usefulness of the publication, considering the existing collection
• Strengths & weaknesses of the existing collection related to the current needs of the university
• Favorable reviews or inclusion in basic reference collection guides
• Reputation of the author
• Currency of the topic
• Date of publication
• Price of the publication
• Language of the publication
