University Archives and Northwest Minnesota Historical Center

The Archives consists of two collection areas: the University Archives, and the Northwest Minnesota Historical Center. The University Archives preserves records concerning the administration and history of Moorhead State University. The Northwest Minnesota Historical Center was established in 1972 on the Moorhead State campus and is affiliated with the Minnesota Historical Society. The Northwest Center preserves information on the history and culture of the Red River Valley, including records on settlement, agriculture, government, business, folklore, and ethnic heritage of the region.


The University's Archivist is Terry Shoptaugh. Both the University Archives and the Northwest Minnesota Historical Center are located on the 4th floor of Library, Room 409. The Archives and Center are open to all researchers from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding University holidays.
