Asoka Marasinghe Ph. D.

This special topics course is inteded for upper level
undergraduates at MSUM. The course covers the interpretation of most
commonly employed spectra in chemistry for structure elucidation of
molecules; Infrared, NMR, (UV) and MS. This course would be an
introduction to the interpretation and basic theoretical concepts in
spectroscopic methods of IR, UV-visible, MS and NMR spectroscopy
featuring a contemporary presentation of one-dimensional nuclear
magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and other modern techniques such
as DEPT, COSY, and HECTOR. Mass
spectroscopy of biological molecules would be presented.
