What kinds of career resources will be
helpful?
That depends on what your interests are and
your potential profession. On this website you will find links to professional
organizations that can be extremely helpful to you whether you are an
architect, and electronics engineer, or a technical writer. Remember, most jobs
-- especially the most rewarding, fulfilling jobs -- are filled without ever
being advertised. That means you should begin to network with other
professionals in your field as early as you can.
You will also want to take advantage of
traditional career services and job banks. MSUM has an excellent Career Services Office. Their website
is very good and their in-person services will be helpful to you as well.
There are many online job banks where you
will find positions in almost every profession. These job banks also allow you
to post your resume online. Some of the ones that my students in the past have
used are listed below.
For those of you who are interested in
technical writing, take a look at some of the positions offered on these sites.
You will find many contract positions and many permanent positions as well. Technical
writing jobs are open in every part of the country and predictions are that
this will remain true for at least the next decade.

If you would like to research different
professions, you might want to take a look at the "Organizations"
link in the yellow area at the left. This link will take you to a list of many
professional organization websites. These websites provide very good background
information about specific career areas. Another good place to do a bit of
research is at the Bureau of Labor Statistics
website. This site contains a wealth of useful information. Be sure to take
a look at their "Occupational Outlook
Handbook."
