Music Industry at MSUM



Program and Performances

 


Minnesota State University Moorhead is unique in offering this exceptional program to students in the upper Mid-West. The emphasis is on music, audio, business, and liberal studies. While you're taking an impressive group of courses and private instruction, you'll have the chance to explore a wide range of performance possibilities in a variety of musical styles. During the year, there are at least a couple of shows featuring music industry bands and performers.


The Music Industry program offers courses in the following areas:

Music Business: including courses in Accounting, Management, and Marketing.
 

Digital Audio/Imaging: including courses in Graphic Communication (web design, multimedia, etc.).


Film/Video
: including courses in television and film production.


Computer Music
: including courses in computer programming.



Internships

    When you major in music industry at MSU Moorhead, you'll have the opportunity of participating in an Internship program that connects you with a professional music business or recording studio experience that in several cases, has resulted in entry-level employment for our graduates. MSU Moorhead is proud of its talented group of music graduates enjoying professional careers around the country. A few of them include:
 

  • As a senior at MSU Moorhead, Michael Williamson completed his internship at Shelter Island Recording Studios in New York City where he worked on a wide variety of projects including the remixing of works performed by Duran Duran.
  • Todd Susag's internship took him to New York. He worked as an assistant at Columbia University. He worked with Brad Garton and others on a wide variety of musical projects using state of the art computer hardware and software.
  • As a senior at MSU Moorhead, Kimberly Zallops completed her internship at Precision Powerhouse Recording Studios in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At Precision Powerhouse, she had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in mixing, mastering and pressing commercial Compact Discs.
  • Matt Svobody's internship took him to Midtown Recording Studios in Nashville. There he had the opportunity to work on a wide range of recording projects including Diamond Rio and Aerosmith. Matt has since been hired on as a full time employee and enjoys working in one of the top studios in the Nashville area.


Recording Projects

    Music students also produce a compilation recording project -- a Compact Disc of their work called Dragon Tracks. MSU Moorhead features hands-on studio recording and sound reinforcement instruction in campus studios.
