Learner Responsibilities

Because of the nature of online learning, your commitment is needed to ensure your overall success. Responsibilities of students in the MSUM RN-B track include the following:

  • Active participation from start (online orientation) through Nurs 475L, the capstone course
  • Commitment to group-based learning, as arranged in any given course
  • Active involvement at least 5 hours per week in reading, individual and group discussions, assignments, and application exercises for each nursing course being takenParticipate online a minimum of 2 times per week or as required (this means posting to the discussion board)
  • Treat other learners in the course respectfully
  • Maintain the privacy of other MSUM nursing learners, including privacy of comments made in the course of electronic conversation that is to be shared only with the nursing group
  • Abide by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) rules which find academic information is confidential and forbids disclosure of academic information without the participant's consent
  • Operate within the Policies of MSUM Information Technology Resources https://web.mnstate.edu/it/policy/ and MSUM Internet and E-mail Usage Guidelines http://web.mnstate.edu/bring/101/usage_guidelines.htm
  • Tolerate potential problems in using Internet technologies, which may experience connection or server problems
  • Be proactive: contact the course instructor with any questions (contact information is on the front top of each nursing course syllabus), contact technology support if you are having problems with Desire2Learn (D2L), and notify the course instructor, as far in advance as possible, of any time exceeding 5 days in which participation will not be possible during a course
