1) Read appropriate chapters in book(s)
2) Outline materials in book (explain it
to yourself)
a) Write down what you don't understand
b) Write down what you do understand
3) Go back over your previous outlines.
Ask the questions:
- a) Is there material which I have just studied
which is related to other material I have studied previously?
- b) How is it related?
- c) What general principles relate these
materials?
During each lecture:
1) Have available the list of things you
do and do not understand.
2) Listen to lecture and compare notes with
instructor. Has something been clarified?
3) Ask questions as necessary to clarify
material.
After each lecture:
1) Go over notes as soon as possible - review
2) Go over list of things you do and don't
understand. Have your questions been clarified?
3) Re-read appropriate chapters in book
for further clarification.
4) Compile list of things you still don't
understand
5) Do the appropriate questions of the homework.
Preparing for each discussion session:
1) Read over outlines.
2) Go over list of things you don't understand.
Be prepared to discuss them.
During each discussion session:
1) Review outlines and homework. Take notes
on material you don't understand.
2) Re-read appropriate chapters in book
Preparing for exams:
1) Review outlines for material to be covered
in exam.
2) Prepare "mini-lectures" for
yourself to explain materials.
3) Prepare list of things you don't understand.
4) Make appointment with instructor to clarify
materials.
5) Repeat 2 through 4 as necessary
6) The night before the exam, eat well and
get a good nights sleep. Don 't cram.
