ANTH 110: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology
Saturday class Fall 2009 semester
Dragon Core 7 - Human Diversity
Liberal Studies F - Global Studies
Official course description: An introduction to the concept of culture and to the study of language
Anthropology is the systematic study of humankind. Cultural anthropologists study culture, the learned and shared ways of life of groups of people that are socially transmitted from one generation to the next. The goal of this course is to help you develop a better understanding of the cultural differences and similarities that exist among and within human societies and cultures, including our own.
Please be aware that even though this is a class taught through Continuing Studies it is still a "traditional" class in the sense of having face-to-face meetings. Since we have so few classes it is especially important that you come on a regular basis and that you stay up on the readings. I've taught this class a number of times now and have seen too many people fail because they did not attend the class meetings or they come to class totally unprepared to take the quiz. It's important for me to reiterate that this is not an online class. I realize we are all busy but my job is to be here to teach you about anthropology and your job is to come to class ready to learn about it. If we all do this it will be a great semester. And remember, it's a great day to be a Dragon!
