VETERANS DAY EVENTS PLANNED IN FARGO/MOORHEAD AREA
Veteran’s Day ceremonies will be on November 11 starting with a wreath laying ceremony on the Veterans Memorial Bridge at 10:30, followed by the parade to the Civic Center with the flag raising ceremony at 11 am. Toby McPherson will be doing a fly-over in a P-51 Mustang. The Guest Speaker for the Veteran’s Day Program will be ND Legion Post 2’s Commander, Dave Johnston.
The Fargo American Legion will be serving stew immediately following the program at the Civic Center at the American Legion. The Red River Valley Veteran’s Concert Band will play a concert starting at noon.
The Jack and Sandy’s live broadcast on KFGO will be from the Fargo American Legion from 10:30 – 2 pm. This broadcast is sponsored By Boulger Funeral Home, Wealth Enhancement and Stop & Go Stores. They will be interviewing local veterans on their show.
Moorhead VFW will be serving Mulligan Stew starting at 1:00 pm until gone, Bingo will start at 2:30 pm.
The United Patriot Bodies will gather at 9:30 a.m. on the Moorhead side of Main Avenue for the Veterans Memorial Bridge sign dedication ceremony. Area military and government officials will speak beginning at 10 a.m.
At 10:30, the parade will proceed west across the bridge to Second Street North in Fargo and will continue to the Civic Center, where a flag-raising ceremony will be held at 11. A program will follow, with a keynote address delivered by Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D.
The West Fargo VFW Post 7564, Ladies Auxiliary and AMVETS ceremonies will begin with a flag-raising at 11 a.m. in front of the VFW Post. A program and a 21-gun salute will follow.
Stew will be served at the Fargo American Legion and VFW, West Fargo VFW and the Moorhead American Legion beginning at noon, and at the Moorhead VFW starting at 4 p.m.
The Red River Valley Veterans Concert Band will perform at 12:30 p.m. at the Fargo American Legion, throughout the afternoon at the Fargo VFW, at 3:30 p.m. at the Moorhead American Legion, and at 7 p.m. at the West Fargo VFW.
The Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center will host the 67th Annual Pheasant Dinner for Hospitalized Veterans, which is sponsored by the VFW and American Legion. A program open to the public will be held at 2 p.m. in the third-floor auditorium.
The Barnesville (Minn.) VFW Post 4628 and American Legion Post 153 Color Guard Units and Auxiliaries will conduct Veterans Day ceremonies at the Barnesville Public School and the Good Samaritan Care Center.
The program at the school begins at 9 a.m., with a presentation of colors, tribute to POW and MIA soldiers, a performance by the concert band and choir, and the presentation of a video from the media production class.
The care center program will begin at 10 a.m., and will include the presentation of colors and speeches from several area officers.
A Veterans Day worship service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. The Rev. Bill Ahlfeldt, who served from 1964 to 1972 with the 327th Military Police Battalion in Chicago, will deliver the sermon. A lunch will follow.
Oak Grove Lutheran School will hold a program at 10 a.m. in the Scheels Center for the Performing Arts. Retired Col. Michael Lewis, U.S. Army Reserve, will be the featured speaker.
The service will include the recognition of veterans and performances from the school’s concert band. The public is invited to attend. Military members are encouraged to come in uniform.
