Lake Superior Ecology

BIOL 328, LASC 10

Course description: Join Bee and Brian Wisenden (Biosciences Dept) on an exploration of the north shore of Lake Superior from Duluth MN to Thunder Bay Ontario. Along the way, students will camp at state parks and discover the political, historical, economic and natural significance of this region. Students will soon discover that one does not have to go to distant lands to experience incredible natural beauty. We have it right here in our own back yard! Moreover, these locations tell a tale of the history and cultural heritage of North America from the first peoples to inhabit this region, the European settlers, important trade routes for fur, timber and minerals, and sociopolitical events that have shaped the human geography we see today.

Registration is limited to 18 and is by instructor approval only. Please email Bee Wisenden (wisendenp@mnstate.edu) or Brian Wisenden (wisenden@gmail.com) if interested in taking this course or for more information.
