Continue to Select Problems

Continue the process for each assignment. Select the problems from the new topics and go back to each of the previous topics, selecting problems to review. This unit contained six assignments. The last assignment in the unit included more problems of the day's new topic versus review because of the time before the exam. The students are also given separate exam review assignments over the week preceding the exam in which they can select topics that they would like to practice more, improving their metacognitive skills.

The image below illustrates how the problems from the first topic were interleaved throughout the unit's assignments.

Homework

The results of distributing the learning process and practice over an extended period of time and interleaving topics so the student has to change strategies has been shown to improve recall over a longer period of time than mass or blocked practice.
