Biography

 

Ashish Gupta is Associate Professor of Operations Management in School of Business at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He earned his PhD in Management Science and Information Systems from Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University, MS in Industrial Engineering & Management and BS in Mechanical Engineering. He has held visiting positions as a Research Scientist at the Mayo Clinic Rochester and is one of the external collaborators with Critical Care Informatics lab at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He has extensive collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, Banner Health, and several other healthcare organizations.

 

Dr. Gupta’s research interests are in the areas of understanding cognition, decision making and workflow with the goal of improving various aspects of healthcare delivery and (re) designing improved HIT systems. More specifically, he has applied cognitive and workflow concepts in the areas of  critical care, emergency care, chronic care, telemedicine applications to understand issues related to workflow, process modeling, simulation, healthcare delivery and outcomes, system design, cognitive decision making in healthcare, care coordination, and understanding problems of  stress (driven by technology) information overload, multitasking. His recent articles have appeared in journals such as Decision Support system, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, etc. His research work has been funded through several grants, including DoD. 

 

He has co-chaired conferences such as Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS 2010), Symposium on Healthcare Advancement in Research & Practice (SHARP 1.0, 2.0), EOMAS 2011 and organized various tracks and mini-tracks at AMCIS, HICSS, INFORMS and participated in panels. He has initiated the SHARP conference, which is typically organized in collaboration with Mayo Clinic Rochester at his home institute. He serves as a reviewer for numerous journal and grants, on the editorial boards of journals such as Healthcare, IJDSST and IJITSA, and co-edited special issues of journals such as Decision Support Systems (healthcare modeling), Annals of IS (Advances in Healthcare Delivery & Informatics). Dr. Gupta currently serves as the President of MWAIS, representing 12 mid -western states, and is on the advisory board of AIS SIGMAS.

His teaching interests are in the areas of Business Analytics, Healthcare Information Technology, Healthcare delivery, Operations Management, Project Management and Supply Chain Management. He received awards for outstanding graduate teaching associate award and for outstanding instruction at Spears School of Business’ at OSU.
