Three ring binder, pencil, & scientific calculator

 

Course Description:

This course will focus on Axiomatic systems (set of elements and rules for combining elements), logic, sets, probability and statistics.  Not intended to prepare students for any subsequent course, except Math 303.

Unit 1 – Sets (Chapter 2), Unit 2 –  Logic (Chapter 3), Unit 3 – Probability (Chapter 4)

Unit 4 – Statistics and Mathematical Systems Chapters 5 & 6)

Class assignments with due dates are posted and regularly updated on the web page listed above under the Math110 link.

Evaluation:

1.      Four unit tests covering: sets, logic, probability, and statistics each worth between 60-80 pts.

2.      Quizzes will occur about every other week.

3.      A modular arithmetic project in Unit 4 will be assigned and worth 30 pts.

4.      Assigned problems from the textbook, handouts, & guided notes - 5 to 10 pts each.

5.      Comprehensive Final worth 150 pts given on May 10th at 9 a.m.

 

Attendance Policy:

If you have 2 or less absences at the end of the semester the lowest quiz will be dropped from your course average (note: 3 tardies will be considered equal to an absence).

 

Late work will lose 50% of its value each weekday beyond its due date.  No make-up on missed quizzes or tests if prior arrangements have not been made with Dr. Harms.

 

Grading Scale:

-98 A+; 97-93 A; 92-90 A-

 89-88 B+; 87-83 B; 82-80 B-

79-78 C+; 77-73 C; 72-70 C-

69-68 D+; 67-63 D; 62-60 D-

59%- F
