Psy 330 Proposal
Outline Assignment
25 pts.
Upon completion of this outline assignment, students should have the following accomplished: (1) project topic selected and focused on a particular sub-area (2) literature narrowed sufficiently so that the rationale and methodology of the proposed study begins to come into focus, and (3) testable hypothesis or hypotheses drafted. This assignment is intended to help students synthesize the literature and impose organization in the literature review, which will present the argument (rationale) for the research and end with at least one possible hypothesis. You will not be locked into the specific hypotheses presented at the end of the outline, however, you need to start drafting potential hypotheses.
THE CURRENT TASK--Please present a typed topic outline of your literature review (see Galvan Ch. 8 Synthesizing Literature Example 8.3.1 on p. 73) with as many topics "fleshed-out" as possible (see Galvan Example 8.12.1 on p. 78). "Fleshed-out" means that the general topic outline has been broken down into specific details, including the sources that will be referenced in each subsection. It is not expected that you will have all 10 sources in hand and ready to go, but you should have read and referenced at least 6 sources in the outline. Your goal is to be able to write the first draft of your Introduction section from this outline.
All outlines should begin with a major section (Roman Numeral I) regarding the Introduction to the problem and end with a major section in which your drafted hypotheses are written out.
Attach an APA-formatted Reference section at the end of the outline which contains the sources you cite in the outline.
Looking into the Future:
Your ultimate goal in this course is to write a
proposal for experimental or quasi-experimental research containing the
following sections: 1) Title page, 2) Abstract, 3) Introduction (with at least
10 scholarly sources referenced), 4) Method, 5) Results (brief description of
design and analysis plan), 6) References, 7) Appendices if needed (with sample
stimuli or stimulus description). This assignment will provide a roadmap for
writing your introduction.
