Psy 330 Proposal
Outline Assignment
20 pts.
This assignment is intended to help students synthesize the literature and impose organization in the literature review, which will present the argument (rationale) for the research, very briefly preview proposed study, and end with at least one possible hypothesis. You will not be locked into the specific method and hypothesis(es) presented at the end of the outline, however, you need to start drafting possibilities.
Outline Assignment: Please prepare a typed topic outline of your literature review (see Galvan Examples 9.3.1 on p. 99-100) with as many topics "fleshed-out" as possible (see Galvan Example 9.12.1 on p. 107). "Fleshed-out" means that the general topic outline has been broken down into specific details, including the sources that will be referenced in each subsection. It is not expected that you will have all 10 sources in hand and ready to go, but you should have read and referenced at least 6 sources in the outline. Outline in enough detail that allows you to write the first draft of your Introduction section from this outline. Aim to create a "funnel effect."
All outlines must:
1) Begin the outline with a major section (Roman Numeral I) regarding the Introduction to the problem--What is the topic or question? Why Important?
2) End the outline with a major section that briefly previews proposed study, ending with hypothesis(es) written out in complete sentence format.
3) Add a complete APA References section on the last page for the six articles (minimum) you cite in the outline.
Completing this outline assignment should help you accomplish the following: (1) project topic selected and focused on a particular sub-area (2) literature narrowed sufficiently so that the rationale and methodology of the proposed study begins to come into focus, and (3) testable hypothesis or hypotheses drafted.
Looking into the Future:
The next step will be using this outline as a roadmap for writing your
introduction.
