Online Activities for SpEd 690, 1/25/06

Completion of the following activities (as well as the study guide for chapter three) allow you to not attend class on Wednesday, January 25th. I have developed these activities because a majority of the School Psychology students are traveling to a conference that evening. I will be in my office during class time so this would be a great time to meet with me if you have any questions. We will be reviewing Reinforcement Chapter Four on Wednesday, February 1st (be sure to have your study guides done) and Amy will be presenting research of reinforcement. We will have a test on February 8th so be sure and have any questions you may have ready to ask on February 1st.

Chapter Three provides you with information on graphing behavioral data. The following link Analysis of Data provides you with information on how to analyze behavioral data that is graphed. I would like you to focus on calculating the means of each phase to discuss functional relationship (for review of functional relationship refer to Chapter One).

TASK ONE

Please draw a line graph with the data from the following scenario (using the graphing guidelines from your text):

Ms. Williams was concerned about Henry's behavior of not having his homework completed. She took baseline data on his Math homework for one week and recorded the number of incomplete problems. Baseline data was:

Day One-10

Day Two-12

Day Three-5

Day Four-15

Day Five-7

On Day Six she implemented an intervention. For every five math problems completed, Henry received a 5 minute pass to using the computer. Data reflecting the number of incomplete problems for the next five days was as follows.

Day Six-4

Day Seven-7

Day Eight-10

Day Nine-5

Day Ten-4

On Day Seven Ms. Williams discontinued the intervention. Data for the next four days was as follows.

Day Eleven-15

Day Twelve-16

Day Thirteen-10

Day Fourteen-9

Use the following link Calculating Stability of Baseline Data, calculate the stability of the baseline data in this scenario. Was the baseline data stable enough to start intervention?

What type of design was used by Ms. Williams? Can this design identify a functional relationship between the independent and dependent variable? What is the independent variable in this scenario? What is the dependent variable?

Describe the functional relationship that Ms. Henry has or has not established. Use the means for each phase in your description.

TASK TWO

Complete #3 in the Applications on page 62. In your graph show that Treatment for Bud was started on Day 11.

Is there a functional relationship established in this example?

TASK THREE

Write a scenario (as I have done for Task One) that reflects EITHER an Alternating Treatment Design or Changing Criterion Design. Graph the data from your scenario.

Be ready to review and share these activities on 2/1/06. To those of you going to Mpls.--have a good trip!!
