Overall Objective:

Students will demonstrate competencies in their abilities to provide appropriate lesson planning and instruction to students identified as DCD. Under the direction of a certified teacher, the practicum student will be given appropriate teaching responsibilities in their assigned classroom or program. The supervising teacher will write a final evaluation regarding the practicum student's abilities. A university supervisor will also provide feedback and evaluation of the practicum experience.

Assessment Summary Report

•Evaluated by SpEd 456/556 instructor (must receive a B or better to pass 467D)

Individual Education Plans (knowledge, reflective)

•Review student files (in consultation with supervising teacher)

•Attend at least one IEP meeting

Instruction (knowledge, reflective, creative, humanistic)

•Provide instruction to students under guidance of the supervising teacher.

•Collect and graph behavioral data on one behavior or skill demonstrated by a student.

Consultation / Collaboration (knowledge, reflective, creative, humanistic)

•Observe parental contacts.

•Observe contacts with general education teachers, related service staff,

paraprofessionals, and other personnel.

Evaluation:

Grading is: S (satisfactory) or F (fail).

The supervising teacher completes a midterm and final evaluation of your performance in the practicum experience. The evaluation form contains criteria for evaluating student competencies of the Art and Science of Teaching Model. This evaluation becomes a part of your credential file.
