Herman Stern frequently corresponded with the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant
Aid Society (HIAS) to deposit money or try to arrange transportation to America
for some of his relatives. In this letter, he is informed that the visa for
his brother Moses Stern had been granted and that HIAS needed a deposit of money,
plus copies of affidavits, before trying to obtain a ship ticket. By then he
could no longer get in touch with Moses, who may already have been sent to the
Theresianstadt Ghetto.
