In this letter, dated March 16, 1939, learns that Goldschmidt, having arrived in Philadelphia, has had a hernia operation which has rendered him unable to work. The Jewish Aid Society of Philadelphia informs Stern that it has given Goldschmidt some assiatnce, and asks Stern if perhaps Goldschmidt should travel to North Dakota, where Stern might help him find work?
In response, Stern sent some money to Goldschmidt, to pay his bills and help him travel to New York, where he hoped yet other relatives might help him find a job.
