PE 105 Jogging


Course Description: This course is designed to allow the student to experience a significant increase in their cardio-respiratory endurance which will be reflected by (1) a lower resting heart rate, and (2) the ability to run longer distances in decreasing amounts of time.

Course Objectives:

Cognitive

  1. Gain general knowledge concerning jogging.

  2. Understand basic guidelines involved in running in cold weather environments.

  3. Be able to define specific terminology associated with running.

  4. Understand the proper equipment necessary.

  5. Identify safety precautions for distance running

  6. Gain an understanding concerning factors that determine rate of improvement

Psychomotor

  1. Demonstrate proper running mechanics.

Instructional Strategic: Instructor directed presentations and demonstrations, worksheets and individual skill development practice.

Diversity: Diversity is not addressed in this course.

Course Requirements: Regular class attendance is mandatory.  If a class period is missed please contact a classmate to determine what course objectives were discussed and make necessary arrangements for any missed notes.

Evaluations: The following criteria will be utilized in the determination of overall grade performance

Skill testing 50%
Notebook 20%
Final exam 20%
Attendance 10%

Letter Grades: The following percentages will determine course grades:

90-100 A
80-90 B
70-80 C
60-70 D
Below 60 F
