This semester we looked at some techniques of critical thinking directly by explaining the techniques of logic.  We also furthered that process by developing models in economics and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the models.  I want you to combine that clear, methodical thought process to discrimination in America.  While Critical Thinking is the central focus of this LASC course, I want to explore this through the issue of multiculturalism.  We are not in a society with one race, one religion, one culture, and so on. We are a collection of many cultures.  Some, however, may be treated differently.  I want you to use your critical thinking skills along with some addition data collection to evaluate the level of discrimination in America.

Before one starts to explore any problem in economics, one should know something about the starting conditions.  You may use any credible source from either the library or the internet to answer the fillowing question. (Be sure  to cite your sources.)

1) What is the Labor Force Participation Rate?

2) What is the Labor Force Participation rate for males?

3)  for white males?

4) for black males?

5) What is the Labor for Participation rate for females?

7) for white females?

8) for black females?

9) What is the unemployment rate?

 10)  What is the unemployment rate for whites?

11) What is the unemployment rate for blacks?

With this information and any other data that you want to include read and evaluate the following:

Do we have discrimination?

This is a time to show off your strong critical thinking skills?

First, provide a short paragraph summary of this work.

Second, provide a two to three page essay evaluating this work.  Does the author provide a good argument?  Use our econ textbook, your critical thinking skills, and all of the data that you have collected as well as the data you have collected.  Dissect the argument and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the argument put forth.  Remember, that even though this is not a writing class, weak writing will hurt your grade.  A good essay will always have a strong thesis statement. (you may want to bold it to give it strength).  Every argument offers proof in the form of premises to defend the thesis statement/conclusion.  You should have at least 3 well-developed premises to strengthen your argument.  Caution:  In the past I have had students who have discussed discrimination in general or their view on discrimination. As it says above I want you to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the paper.  Finally, cite all sources and provide and reference page.
