Local Economic History

Project Description:  You are required to research, design and present a web ready PowerPoint project analyzing the economic impact a local business, industry, individual building, or individual had on the community.  You are expected to conduct research through person to person interviews, analysis of primary documents and internet sources.  (Two great sources are the MSUM that has copies of our local papers and NDSUs regional institute.  Housed across the street from the FargoDome this archive has a giant wealth of information.)

Grading

Economic Impact        40%

• Detailed analysis of the economic impact of the entrepreneur, industry, or business.
• Clear explanation of changes in the community as a result of the business
• Discussion of how the agglomeration of technology, trade and capital led to change

Visuals                        25%

• Effective use of charts and graphs
• Good use of color
• Photos or graphics on all slides
• Graphics are related to slide text

Mastery of Technology 25%

• Slide show works efficiently
• Slide show auto-timed
• Background colors/textures used
• Text easily read from slide
• Contains workable hyperlink for business if available
• Web-ready project on CD or floppy disk
• Two printed copies of project (Handouts-3 slides to a page)

  o Extra Credit for Effective Use of Animation/Sound (5)

Grammar and Spelling      5%

• Perfect spelling, grammar and punctuation
• Language appropriate for the classroom

Copyright and Documentation 5%

• All sources properly cited
• Permissions to use graphics from commercial web pages & other sources have been received, printed and saved
• Two copies of documentation

Finishing Touches (Grade is an Incomplete unless all requirements are met)

• All spelling and grammar errors corrected
• Thank you note approved by instructor and sent to business
• Copy of presentation sent to business (if needed)
• Copy of presentation given to instructor
