John probably spent is entire life living at the same location in Noble Co.
It is said he was drafted in the Civil War, but avoided actual service by
hiring a Negro as a substitute. It is also said that he was a very
religious man with considerable knowledge of the bible. John died in 1904
of heart disease.

William and family, when the childern were small lived on what is now known as
Poverty Ridge, a short distance north of the Levi Shaver farm. The house
stood on the east side of the road over the Ben Peyton place. Grandfather
told me about seeing deer come running and he would hide and scare them.
Little did he think 125 years later, deer would be more plentiful. Some time
later William came in possession of a place know as the James Greer farm on
Buttermilk road. William was a good horseman, had a blacksmith shop on his fa
