Assignment: You will compose a short (roughly 3 pages) essay on five things about the history and methodology of Highlander Folk School which could help the civil rights struggle, due shortly after the Highlander Folk School module due on Monday, March 7th (though you may hand it in earlier).
What to write: Each student will write their essay from the point of view of their character, and will include details about the history of Highlander as well as the reasoning behind the way Highlander conducted its workshops. The gamemaster will grade the essays and average them with the other written work for the game, but will also rank the essays. If a student receives a red violation card during the game, his or her position in the rankings will drop by one. At the end of the game (at the end of the last module played), the gamemaster will reveal who has won the Spirit of Highlander Award, and that character will earn a victory bonus (if a wildcard) or 3 victory points for his or her faction (if a faction member).
How to hand them in: Please send them as attachments to sean.taylor@mnstate.edu (NOT to nicenet) in either MSword or Apple Pages.
Style:
Primary and Secondary material (from the
