Expectations

• Weekly summaries are to be emailed to Professor Harms harms@mnstate.edu
  • Your weekly summaries should be 2-3 paragraphs and include what you have been doing in the classroom and reflect on how it is going, list any concerns you have, identify if you had been gone at all for the week, and mention a highlight of the week See p. 8 in your student teaching handbook.
• Be prepared when you are teaching as you should write/type your lesson plans. The format is up to you and your cooperating teacher.Select this link for some considerations.
• Make Lesson plans Formats can include: Template 1,
• Keep orgainzed binders of all the lessons you teach making comments on what you would change next time after you teach them, Professor Harms will ask to see them during some of his observations.
• Capstone assignment involves creating a unit similar to what was done for Math 416 along with daily lesson plans for your portfolio that you should teach and complete detailed reflections.
• Video tape two lessons and send Professor Harms your reflections that address the four questions.

Capstone Portfolio in Livetext - Directions

Fingerprint cards are in the Records Office, Owens 104, and completed in the Campus Security Office which is staffed T & R 1-4:30 and W 6 pm-8 pm.

Curriculum Worksheet - print this out and get the necessary signatures before your student teaching is done.

Minnesota Department of Education -Apply for "First-time" teaching license, no more than 30 days prior to graduation.

Subbing

Student teachers who finish student teaching and have been asked to sub before their license is ready, can ask for a letter from the university stating that they have met all of the MN requirements. They send it in to the Dept of Ed and will receive a substitute teacher license immediately. Students should let Dr. Malhum know that they are sending the letter in and she will call John Melick to let him know it is coming. He will have everything ready for the student in order to speed things up.
