MArch 27, 2009 7:45 a.m.

Good Morning.... Ha, I don't know what so good about it.

The Red River is at 40.44' as of 7:15. A NEW WORLD RECORD, with at least 1.5 feet to go ... ugh!!! Weather is 12F w/ wind chill of -5. At least there isn't any snow forecasted until Sunday... whoopee :-(

They have ordered evacuation of ALL of Moorhead, South of Main Avenue to I-94 from 8 St South to the River, which is named now Lake Red... This includes Concordia College, which they closed last night. That is alot of people. MSUM is three blocks EAST of Concordia. So most of Moorhead from east if 8 street south have been told to leave.

Merit Care Hospitals evacuated all of their In-Patients and sent them to various hospitals around the region. Those emergency vehicles from the pix I shared last night were coming into to town to pick people up. They evacuated many by helicopter and planes. What is more exciting for me is that there has been found two leaks in the dike just north of Lindenwood Park. This is where the water plant is basically everything in the neighborhood south and east of the water plant to the park has been evacuated.

Most major north south and east west corridors have been closed to traffic except the Guard and emergency vehicles. The only way to get back and forth between Fargo and Moorhead is Main Ave. Bridge. Most exits from I-94 into town have been closed. All non essential driving around has been suspended, In other words if you don't need to be somewhere don't get in your car and drive around. They have been arresting folks who get on the dikes to take photos. They mayor has just asked everyone to take the day off from work, so no one has anyplace to drive to. The majority of the retail outlets are closed.

This notice that just went out. "The Fargo Police Department is announcing the closure of several roads that will be used for flood truck traffic only. The closures will begin at 6:00 a.m. Friday, March 27. The closures are as follows: ¥ University Dr. from 35th Ave. N. to 40th Ave. S. ¥ 10th St. from 13th Ave. S. to 19th Ave. N. ¥ NP Ave. from University Dr. to the river ¥ 7th Ave. N. from University Dr. to the river ¥ 19th Ave. N. from University Dr. to Elm St. "

See ya later. Gonna go move sandbags. Might as well, the gym is closed.

Peace!

---------- Evening of March 27, 2009 ----------
Again these are uneditied and not cleaned up, just downloaded and put on the web so you can see what it's like.

Spent the day working with a pal of mine, Jeff Deuer, and two Red Cross Volunteers from Moline, Illinois. It was very cold, high was 18F, though sun came out around 4 p.m. I never made it to MSUM to fill sandbags. We worked with the Red Cross feeding the truck drivers who are hauling the clay to the dike you see on all the news. We also delivered food and water to some of the dike building lines which you will see in the pix. Jeff is the guy on the pictures holding the boxes of water We both were interviewed for TV. Me FOX and Jeff CBC or CNN we don't know who.

There has been a number of areas around town both Moorhead and Fargo that have been evacuated. Almost everything is shut down in town. We had to move our cars out of our garage due to it being below the water level if the dikes broke.

Some CNN folks were arrested last night for being on the dike. This included the anchor guy. There is ample warning about not being on the dikes.

More later.

Mike
