Public Relations ProcessesThe 16 Commandments of PR Writing |
...
consider them carved in stone! |
|
I. | Thou shalt never double-space at the end of a sentence. |
II. | Lose thy superlatives! Thou shalt not exaggerate, express excessive awe and amazement, or overly congratulate thyself or thy organization. |
III. | Thou shalt consider the Associated Press stylebook thy “bible” for all written contacts with the media, from news releases and collateral to memos, letters and even e-mail. |
IV. | Thou shalt abjure and forswear any use whatsoever of first- and second-person voice in all thy news releases. No royal “we.” No folksy “you” (stated or implied). The only place where these may be used in a release is within direct quotes explicitly attributed to an individual speaker. |
