Section I B: Pronunciation

Section I.B. of the Praxis II focuses on the identification of pronunciation difficulties in samples of learner speech. This section uses recordings of learner speech and asks test takers to listen to as well as read the learner speech sample. Then a question is asked about the learner speech, and the test taker must find the correct answer to this question.

There are 10 questions in this section of the test, and it takes about 15 minutes to complete the section.

To prepare for this section, this preparation course provides the following lessons:

  1. Review of the International Phonetic Alphabet
  2. Review of the IPA for consonants
  3. Review of the IPA for vowels
  4. Language samples of learners with accompanying questions such as are found on the Praxis II.
