Psy 230 Spring 19 Extra Credit Opportunities

1) CANCELLED--Option not available.  Attend the Red River Psychology conference, which is taking place at NDSU on Friday, April 12th.  You may earn up to 6 extra credits points by attending the conference.  For each poster, oral presentation, or guest speech you attend, write two paragraphs.  The first paragraph should describe (in your own words) the overall research question, the independent variable(s), dependent variable(s), hypothesis(es), and main conclusions/results.  The second paragraph should be your personal reflection about how the project/presentation relates to your thoughts and knowledge about Psychology.  You may, for example, address the following: What specialty area of Psychology (e.g., clinical, neuro, social, cognitive, developmental, art therapy) did this project address? Why was it interesting? What (if anything) did you previously know about this topic? What new information did you learn? What are the potential uses of this information?

You may summarize up to three projects/presentations.  I will award two extra credit points for each summary.  You may turn in a maximum of three summaries, for six extra credit points maximum. Hard copies of the summaries are due to me on Tuesday, April 16 in class or to my mailbox by 4 pm.

Below is the link to the conference schedule and program.  You may attend any of the student poster or paper presentations. You may also attend one or both of the keynote speaker's talks on Thursday evening at 6:30 or Friday at 12:30 pm. Note that reservations and payment were required for the lunch Friday, so there is not time to arrange that. But the keynote speaker will present immediately after lunch at 12:30 and you may attend the talk.  These presentations would count as part of your three maximum. In the write-ups please summarize in paragraph one and reflect in paragraph two. These talks will likely cover more than one study so it may not be possible to write about every independent and dependent variable; do you best to summarize.

Take a picture of your lab booklet before you turn it in to the Center of Engaged Learning for the drawing.  Please email me the picture by 11 pm Thursday, April 18th.
