Syllabus - Fall 2019
Overview of Course: This course seeks to help students understand basic ecological principles, and to use these principles to understand our current environmental problems. An integration of scientific, economic, political and ethical considerations will help students to appreciate the policies and practices necessary to achieving a sustainable future. MnTC Goal 10.
Biology Today BIOL 109 (Fall 2019 - Mon, Wed, Fri Noon to 12.50 pm LH 102)
Syllabus - Fall 2019
Overview of course: This course offers an issues-oriented approach to the learning of biology. This course is designed to encourage critical evaluation of biological information providing students with a biological literacy that will enable them to make appropriate decisions affecting their own lives and the well-being of society. Course should be taken concurrently with BIOL 109L. For non-science majors. MnTC Goal 3 (3 Crs).
Biology Today BIOL 109L (Fall 2019 -Tuesday 3.00 pm to 5.50 pm LH 209)

Overview of course: This course includes principles of biology with an emphasis on human biology, basic concepts in ecology, and the impact of specific environmental problems. The course includes two lab hours integrated into the bi-weekly meeting times. MnTC Goal 10. All material for this Course is available on your MSUM D2L Brightspace section.
General Botany BIOL 305 (Spring 2020 - Mon, Wed, Fri Noon to 12.50 pm HA 113)
Overview of course: This course is designed for the biology major and is a comprehensive introduction to the plant kingdom including the following topics: life-history, reproduction, structure, and physiology. A laboratory is included and involves self-paced microscopic and macroscopic analysis of living and preserved specimens.
General Botany Lab BIOL 305L (Spring 2020 -Thursday 3.00 pm to 5.50 pm LH 209).
Overview of course: Design and implement original experiments in plant biology. Introduction to plant ecology including the distribution and abundances of plant populations and composition and diversity of plant communities. Survey major plant groups to understand patterns of evolution in plant form and function. Use primary literature effectively.
Overview of course: This course seeks to help students understand the basis of human structures and functions with references to genetics, development, nutrition and disease. For non-science majors. MnTC Goal 3).
Overview of course: This course is designed for biology majors. The course will address biological diversity, primarily in plants and animals. Organismal diversity will be presented within an evolutionary context. Relationships between form and function as well as relationships of organisms to their environments will be addressed. All material for this Lab section is available on your MSUM D2L Brightspace section.
