Plant Physiology BIOL 347

Book of choice:

Plant Physiology, 4th Ed, Taiz and Zeiger.

This book is NOT required, but suggested if this is your first plant class.  You should read up in more detail after the lecture.  There is also a companion web site for the book which I suggest you use.

Overview of course: This course is designed for the biology major and is a comprehensive introduction Structure and function of higher plants with emphasis on molecular and cellular physiology as related to whole plant functions. Topics include growth and development, photosynthesis, and environmental aspects of plant physiology.

This is a small example of the Information you will learn in this class:

This is a generalized plant cell.  Plant cells are much link animal cells except that they contain:

Chloroplasts: These have a 3rd membrane system and contain Thylakoids, which, when arranged in stacks are known as Granum This is the site of photosynthesis in the plant cell.

The Plant Cell Wall: The cell wall is critical to plant cell growth, differentiation, and response to biotic and abiotic stress.  Controlled deposition of primary wall polymers is one of the key factors needed for cell expansion
