Lab 2 - Leveling
Purpose:
This lab will give you exposure to the processes and calculations
used in determining the relative elevation of several points. You will
use a variety of instruments to experience their relative accuracy and
ease of use.
Equipment Required:
- Dumpy Level Tripod, Tripod Base
- Level Rod
- Hand Level and Stick
- Laser level and target
Procedure:
1. Determine the elevation difference between
points A and E on the first and second floors of Hagen using 1) a hand
level, 2) the dumpy level, and 3) the laser level. When using the dumpy
level, use a tripod support. Close back to your starting point, perform
the standard math checks, and compute any misclosure. Total misclosure
must be less than 0.20 ft using the Dumpy level.. Record your
results in your field book using the standard note form.
2. Each person will demonstrate leveling the dumpy level
and a 3-screw transit, and will correctly read a rod vernier. List
each crew members' name in your field book, and leave a space for the
instructor to initial your completion.
