I am honored to be named one of the 2010 Biology Scholars in a program of the American Society of Microbiology for biology faculty members! The Research Residency workshop held in July 2010 served as a "boot camp" to introduce us all to the ideas and practices of SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning). I had already delved into eduation research over the past several years, but learned so much more about exciting research possibilities for faculty at all types and sizes of institutions. We are all scientists and teachers, and our students have much to gain if we approach our teaching from a scientific point of view.
